The Heliocentric theory was originally the idea that the sun is at the centre of the Universe while the Earth and the other planets revolve round the sun. The earliest important or known advocate of the heliocentric theory was the Ancient Greek philosopher Aristarchus. After Aristarchus it took over a millennium before great scientists, notably Copernicus, Galilleo and Kepler proved that the heliocentric theory is true.

Today the heliocentric theory has been modified to say that the centre of the Solar System lies within the Sun. We know the sun does not occupy any special place in the Milky Way Galaxy or in the universe.
